Requirements

iOS 26 or later. The most detailed scans need a device with Face ID (TrueDepth). Other devices with an A12 chip or newer use camera-only scanning, which is less detailed. Switch with the Sensor chip on the Scan tab.

Scanning tips

Hold the phone 25–40 cm away. Keep your head still and move the phone slowly in an arc: front, left, right, a little from below the chin.
Relaxed face, eyes open, lips gently closed. Tie long hair back and take off glasses.
If scanning pauses ("Hold steady"), stop for a second and continue slowly over an area you've already scanned.
It works in the dark: TrueDepth sees with its own infrared light.

Mapping and animating

After a scan, tap Map Face. It takes about a minute.
In Animate, use Calibrate Neutral (relax for 2 seconds) so a still face stays still.
Lips or eyes look off? Scan again with lips gently closed and eyes open, then Map Again.

Exports

Exports appear in the Files app → On My iPhone → Sanimate → Exports, and can be shared from the app. Scans and avatars export to OBJ, STL, PLY and USDZ; game-ready avatars to glTF with 52 ARKit-named blendshapes.

Blender Link

Get the add-on on your computer from Gumroad and install it in Blender (Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Install from Disk). In the app, open Animate → Blender Link and turn it on. In Blender, press N, open the Sanimate tab and tap Find Phone (or type the address shown in the app), then Connect. The phone and computer must be on the same Wi-Fi.

Free and Pro

Scanning, mapping, animating, recording takes and reels, 1080p photos, Blender Link and exporting your scan or mapped face (OBJ, STL, PLY, USDZ) are free.

Sanimate Pro is a one-time purchase that adds the Pro looks (Liquid Drip, Inner Glow, Hologram, Gold, Copper), scuffs and rust, Pro backdrops and skin tones, 4K photos, no watermark, Ultra scans, the Neon video style, the game-ready glTF avatar and exports of recorded 3D animation (animated USD, OBJ sequence, glTF animation). Pro looks can be tried live before you buy.

Restoring Pro

Pro belongs to your Apple Account. On a new device or after reinstalling, open Profile → Sanimate Pro → Restore (or Restore Purchases on the Pro screen). For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple handles all payments.

Camera or microphone not working

Open the iOS Settings app → Sanimate and turn on Camera (needed for scanning and animating) and Microphone (optional, for voice and lip sync). Blender Link also needs Local Network.

Deleting your data

Profile → Settings → Delete Account & All Data removes every scan, avatar, take and export and your sign-in from the device.
